About Dar Es Salaam
Dar Es Salaam is Tanzania’s largest and the most populated city. Also the most important seaport. Dar es Salaam is a very cosmopolitan city. Though relatively less visited by tourists, it has got good beach spots and many historical buildings- making it a prospective "few nights" stop over. Many tourists visit Dar es Salaam when they shift between the northern and southern parks or when they shift from the western to southern parks. Inspite of German, Arabic, Asian and British influences on its architecture, Dar es Salaam is fundamentally very Swahili. People are quite friendly and helpful.
Dar es Salaam, being the business capital of Tanzania, is well connected to the rest of the world. The Dar es Salaam international airport receives many international flights from different parts of the world. A number of tourists fly first into Dar es Salaam and then transfer to other areas of the country. Domestic airlines, buses and trains network run from Dar es Salaam to all the corners of the country.
About Zanzibar
Zanzibar is truly relaxing as well as very historical. Zanzibar is most probably as justified as one of the main reasons of visiting Tanzania as are Kilimanjaro mountain, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. 90% of tourists visiting Tanzania end their safari with few nights in this beautiful island. Deeply immersed in the history of colonialization and slavery, rich Arabic and Islamic culture, together with pristine beaches along the Indian Ocean shoreline are the speciality of this island.
A separate state within Tanzania, Zanzibar consists of two large islands: Unguja (Zanzibar island) and Pemba. Most of the tourists stick to Zanzibar island in their visit. Zanzibaris are mostly occupied in farming and fishing. Main exports include clove and coconut products. The main concentration is at the capital- Zanzibar town in the west coast.
Zanzibar nowadays is very easily accessible from Dar es Salaam and Arusha. There are many scheduled flights into the island as there are speedboats from Dar es Salaam.
About Pemba
The island of Pemba known as 'Al Jazeera Al Khadra' (the green island, in Arabic) is an island forming part of the Zanzibar archipelago, lying off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. It is situated about 50 kilometres to the north of the island of Unguja, more commonly (and incorrectly) known as Zanzibar. In the 1960s Zanzibar was united with the former colony of Tanganyika to form Tanzania. It lies 50 kilometres east of mainland Tanzania. Together with Mafia Island (south of Zanzibar), they form the Spice Islands
